Everything you wanted to know about Rex
…but were afraid to ask!
I am a Honolulu, Hawaii based photographer, designer and architect living in the islands since 1989. Since moving to Honolulu from my native Oklahoma, and previously Louisiana, I began working in the architectural community of Honolulu providing architectural design and documentation services with Honolulu firms. Projects were largely focused on the design of hotel and resort developments as well as custom residential home design. In the early 1990s, I started a successful venture into 3D computer modeling, renderings and illustrations with a business partner. We utilized computer generated models of buildings merged into photographs of the actual project sites in a photo-realistic manner. This planted the seeds for a career in photography.
In the 2000s, I ventured into the area of architectural photography of completed projects for other architects, developers and real estate firms. This naturally evolved into a passion and love for travel and landscape photography, as well as “non-studio” portraits (which I term “Aloha Portraiture”) and product photography.
My landscape photography has focused mostly on Hawaiian beaches, skyscapes and high-country landscapes of Oahu and the outer islands. The character of these Hawaiian photos have a strong emphasis with color! My travel photography features prominent European destinations such as the U.K., Germany, Austria and Italy and Southeast Asian destinations such as the Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia.
I received my degree from the University of Oklahoma, School of Architecture in 1989. In addition to working as an architect, I have also taught computer aided design classes at the University of Hawai‘i, School of Architecture. I co-founded the architectural learning retreat HighTechHighNature held periodically at Yosemite National Park; and taught a co-created “Photoshop for Architects” seminar with my former business partner around the country.
More coming soon…
